Lovely story, Carole, and somewhat nostalgic for me. We had a festa in my Italian neighborhood in Chicago each year. Our church also carried the name Santa Maria Addolorata. Angels flew across the sky on a wire as Mary was carried through the streets in solemn procession. As a young child I was fascinated with the angels, but more interested in the cotton candy that I knew awaited me at the carnival. :-)
Wonderful excerpt! So full of medieval pageantry and the ancient rites of spring that touched you so deeply and us all as we read your vivid descriptions. Happy Easter, named for the fertility goddess Ēostre or Ostara of the Anglo-Saxons!
Thank you, Kate! I knew you would catch the relevance to your goddesses!
How delightful, Lucy! I had no idea that this festa was part of the American tradition. Thank you, friend!
